Well I'm diving in, to blogging. Another design blog? Really? I hesitated myself as there are so many wonderful blogs, specifically design blogs that exist. Trust me I know as I follow a good portion of them. Great news is that there are so many facets of design. At any given time there is something new to learn, talk about and discover. I can't tell you how much I love a good, splurge/steal segment or to learn about a new fabric line or design idea. That's what makes design great after all. There are no rules, and as far as I am concerned anybody who tells you that you "can't do something" shouldn't be giving out too much design advice. So what can you expect?...a little bit of everything I suppose. Mostly the design ideas and elements that I talk with my friends, clients and colleagues about. Ideas and items that can help you finish that project, give you some design direction and hopefully inspire you to ultimately love the house you have. So come on in the water is warm...

Tis the season, to shop and decorate and that is. There are so many amazing sales out there and on top of getting all those gifts for those loved ones taken care of, now is a great time to treat your house to a few treats as well. Lights one of the more under appreciated facets of any home. They make such an impact and can bring such presence and sparkle to any space. They, however, can also be pricey but fear not there are some fabulous finds and deals to be had.

Floor Lamps: One of the hardest to find in my opinion. They can be pricey and flimsy if the base or arm isn't well constructed. I had seen this on line and thought too good to be true but let me assure you it isn't! At $49.99 and three color choices it is certainly worth the trip to IKEA.

Another component to keep in mind with floor lamps is bulb glare, a personal pet peeve. Diffusers are an amazing part to any lamp but most especially to floor lamps and Crate & Barrel has a great one. From the marble base to large arc and of course the aforementioned diffuser, this floor lamp checks off so many boxes and is reasonably priced to boot!

Splurge/Steal: I have a client who is currently specifying a lot of lighting all at once. She is in the midst of finishing up a large house renovation and the budget is in play, as it is most of the time. She fell in love with a pendant fixture that she saw on line but was less enamored when she saw the price tag over a $1000.

The Morris Lantern by Suzanne Kasler is gorgeous. I mean there is a lot to love here. There are times when you go for it, you ignore the price and you splurge. This pendant is being placed in the foyer between her first floor and lower level so yes it will be seen but it wasn't in the entryway to her house so I thought here is a time where we forgo the splurge and see what we can find to best emulate this Lantern. Voila I think we came pretty darn close...

This four light pendant from Joss & Main does the ticket! Priced at less then $400 she can put that extra savings towards another light fixture or two...

So look around and see where you might use some more light, or finally replace that fixture you have never liked....Shed some pretty new light in your life, you will be oh so happy you did!

Here are some of my favorite places for lighting:
